Clean Break Order

Divorced? Make sure your ex can't claim on your money in the future.

Getting divorced doesn't end financial ties. A Clean Break Order does: it stops your ex making claims on your home, savings, pension or inheritance, even years later. If you both agree, you can do it yourself with Paulette's solicitor-made templates and video guide for just £275.

The court must approve the order, and the protection depends on its terms and it taking effect. A clean break ends financial claims in both directions; it does not end child maintenance responsibilities.

Clean Break Orders is Paulette's own self-service platform.

Frequently asked questions

What is a Clean Break Order?

It is a financial order approved by the court which ends the financial claims between former spouses covered by the order. Getting divorced alone does not dismiss those claims. A judge must approve the proposed order; claims relating to children are separate.

Do I need a solicitor?

If you both agree and your circumstances are suitable, you can use Paulette's solicitor-made templates and guide to prepare and submit the application yourself. The court still decides whether the order is fair. If you have pensions, unresolved assets or any uncertainty about what you are giving up, get individual legal advice before signing.

How long does it take?

Timing depends on your divorce stage, how quickly you both complete the documents and the court's workload. The court can consider a financial order after the conditional order in your divorce, and a clean break takes effect only once the necessary divorce and court orders are in place. Court approval is not guaranteed, and a judge may ask questions or request changes.
